RACE RULES & REGULATIONS

  • Participants can compete individually, or in teams of four.
  • Waves of four teams and four individuals will start approximately every 10 minutes. Wave starts will be adjusted depending on availability of packs and pull-up bars.
  • Start time will be on a first come, first served basis according to registration date.
  • Participants will be allowed to bring one bag into the transition area in which they can keep towels, snacks, body glide, or anything else they might need during the competition. Participants will also be allowed one transition bag for the swim entry/exit area, which will be located approximately 1/2 mile away from the main transition area.
  • Both teams and individuals will be required to complete each station in its entirety before moving onto the next station. This means that all team members must move together from one station to the next (IE from pull-ups to run, from run to swim, etc.)
RUN/SWIM
  • Run and swim distances are the same for both teams and individuals. As such, for team entries, each participant must complete the full length of the run events and the swim (i.e. each member must swim 800m).
  • The swim will be completed in Walter E Long Lake, and the course will be an out-and-back.
  • Swim entry and exit will be located on the run course, approximately 1/2 mile from the run course end.
  • Swim transition will be located approximately 1/2 mile from the main transition area. Challengers are strongly encouraged to pack a separate transition bag for the swim portion of the race.
  • Alice packs with frames will be provided. Personal packs are allowed, but will be weighed in on race day.

CALISTHENICS

  • Stationary events will be completed in a transition area near the start/finish line.
  • Callisthenic events need not be divided evenly between team members; it is up to the discretion of the team to divide the events up in a manner that is most effective for that team.
  • Proper pull-up, push-up, and sit-up form will be required. A video has been provided to demonstrate the proper method for each callisthenic event.
  • Females may complete flexed arm hang in place of push-ups (3 sec = 1 pull-up).
  • Individuals and teams will be responsible for counting their own calisthenics, but counts must be audible at all times to station monitors.
  • For team challengers, only one person per team may perform calisthenics at a time. If multiple team members complete simultaneous calisthenics, only one team member's count will be counted towards the team total.
  • Rest time is allowed as needed; challengers do not have to complete an entire station without stopping.

    TIMING

  • Timing services will be provided by Cadence Sports. Each individual and each team will be required to wear a timing chip for the duration of the event.
  • Teams will be provided one chip per team. The team member wearing the chip must cross the timing mat after all of his or her teammates have crossed. Race times will be void if the team chip wearer crosses before his or her teammates! No exceptions.

    SANCTIONING

  • The 2010 ZMan Recon Challenge will be sanctioned by the United States Adventure Racing Association. Non-members will be required to purchase a one day membership to participate.
